WELCOME TO READING RABBI JACOBS
The public meeting to mark the 50th Anniversary of the publication of WE HAVE REASON TO BELIEVE was held on December 2nd 2007 and was a resounding success with over 250 people present. For transcripts please visit www.louisjacobs.co.uk.

The Yharzeit for Rabbi Jacobs was commemorated on June 20th 2007 at the New London Synagogue. Rabbi Elliot Cosgrove paid a tribute to Rabbi Jacobs and Rabbi Professor Marc Saperstein lectured on Jewish Preaching on Social Justice. Please go to www.louisjacobs.org for transcripts.

A meeting was held on May 14th at the invitation of the Society for Jewish Study at the London Jewish Cultural Centre, Ivy House, NW11. Dr Joanna Weinberg, Catherine Lewis fellow at the Oxford Centre for Hebrew and Jewish Studies, completed the reading of Rabbinic Thought in the Talmud

This site is dedicated to providing co-ordination, an open forum and feedback to the Reading Rabbi Jacobs project.

This is the brainchild of Rabbi Jonathan Wittenberg who in conjunction with Rabbi Reuven Hammer have instigated a programme centred around Rabbi Jacobs publications.

The Siyyum for the completion of the reading of A JEWISH THEOLOGY was held on Feb 10th in London and Jerusalem. Visit FORUM for discussion details and to participate.

The following ReadingRabbiJacobs meeting was held on Sunday March 4th at 11.00am at Jewish Book Week. Dr Harry Freedman and Professor Michael Alpert led a discussion on God, Torah, Israel.

The Reading started on November 4th with a Melaveh Malkah at the New London Syngagogue and in Jerusalem and Chicago. Almost 150 people attended a stimulating and enjoyable project launch. The first Reading was WE HAVE REASON TO BELIEVE and, for those already familiar with this work, BEYOND REASONABLE DOUBT.

The meetings on December 3rd heard talks from Dr. NORMAN SOLOMON in London and Professor MICHAEL ROSENAK in Jerusalem. See the Forum (please register to view) for details of the discussions.

We are finding extensive material from Rabbi Jacobs's library and from Articles and press cuttings. We will be posting them as scanned. In the interest of speed we will not be doing extensive prooooof reading, so if you spot any misteakes, please do email us and we will correct them!

USER TIP - Please scroll down to see all the news items that are posted in chronological order - latest postings first. The first postings will contain details of materials added to various sections of this site. Participants might wish to visit the latest postings whenever visiting this site.

THIS SITE - New visitors, please read this!

The site is split into THIS NEWS SECTION, OPEN TO ALL. In this section we will be listing all the main articles and new postings and, of course, news of the Reading project itself. The MAIN SECTION is for participants in the Reading Rabbi Jacobs project and is FREE but BY REGISTRATION only. Here you will find the dialogue and postings that we trust participants in the Reading Rabbi Jacobs project will make.

There are three MAIN sections, requiring registration:-

1. The Reference Section - for main articles, reviews and contributions.

2. The Forum section - where you can suggest a topic and people can make their comments. This section is moderated. This means your contributions are first automatically sent to our moderator who then will post it online. So please expect a delay between writing and seeing your contribution live. We are moderating contributions only as a way of organising the material. No articles will be censored. If, for any reason, an amendment of your contribution is thought applicable you will be asked first for your permission.

3. To All and Back section - is the fully interactive part of the site. Here your comments are displayed as soon as you type them so that if there are people on line at the time you can conduct a multi way online conversation that will be able to be viewed by others later on.

Personal Blog - The All and Back Section can also be used as your personal blog so that you can make your own comments as you progress through the series, ask questions and hope that others will join in with you.

Please feedback your comments on using this site as we want it be as user firendly as we can make it!
